Notes & Schedule

District meet went very well for us. We had a couple of new school records and nineteen (19) new top ten times. Our shaved/tapered kids swam over 90% lifetime bests. More on that later.

Congratulations to the Legacy boys and Mansfield girls for their district team championships.

Timberview did a great job of providing timers for the 4A meet last night. Congratulations to the Summit boys for their boys' district team championship.

I'll get together with each swimmer this week to discuss our region relays (we will have a few changes) and the new taper schedule.

This week's general workout schedule (individual taper schedules will vary):

Mon. - swim 6:00-8:00 a.m., dry-land 3:00-3:45 p.m.
Tue. - swim 6:00-8:00 a.m.
Wed. - swim 6:00-8:00 a.m., dry-land 3:00-3:45 p.m.
Thu. - swim 6:00-8:00 a.m.
Fri. - swim 6:00-8:00 a.m.

Even if you were 7th or 8th at the district meet, plan to train on the above schedule.

Region entries aren't due until Sunday, February 5th. We won't know until then if any of the top six finishers in our district are giving up their region spots.

Check out last year's region results here.

If you weren't in the top eight at district, you will splash at 7:00 a.m. each morning this week. We may add another meet to our schedule for y'all.

Duncanville plans to host a non-region qualifier meet on Saturday, February 4th. If we can arrange transportation, we may send a few to that meet.

Once again we had great fan support for our athletes:

Thankyou Timberview Fans!!!!

Tapering Guidelines

Cut back on the caloric intake (you will be burning fewer calories than you were during heavy training)
Cut back on outside activities (we'll rest at the pool - you rest while away from it)
Pay more attention to the "little things" (training intervals will be easier and you'll have a chance to "sharpen" while getting more rest)
Conserve energy (you'll have excess energy that you've not had for months - don't waste it)
Stay positive (both about your upcoming races and your teammates')
Visualize races (take yourself through your races from before the start to after the finish)

Shaving Guidelines

• Allow plenty of time and take breaks while shaving for your championship meet
• Electric shavers and Nair are not used in this process
• Have plenty of new razors/blades available before you begin
• Start by using clippers on exposed body hair
Carefully shave exposed body hair
• Be especially careful around shins, wrists, elbows, knees, forearms, and ankles
• Change blades/razors often

Altitude Adjustments

Elevation in Lubbock is a little over 3,200 feet above sea level.

USA Swimming allows for time conversions for events of 200 yards or longer swum at elevations above 3,000 feet.

If you swam the 200 free, 200 i.m., and/or 500 free, your times would be adjusted as follows:

200 free/individual medley: subtract 0.50 second

500 free: subtract 2.50 seconds

The Lubbock ISD Invite was an observed meet, meaning times swum were sent into the USA Swimming database.

2012 registered athletes should find official times - along with any altitude adjustments - already in SWIMS.

A Few Notes

We missed a birthday swim over break, didn't we? Let's make that up tomorrow!

We will not have dry-land today, but we will have dry-land Wednesday & Friday.

If you missed this morning's story-time presentation of "The Precious Present" by Spencer Johnson, catch up here.

Randy V. is the only one who's given me a shirt size. Please get those to me so we can order your special Christmas training shirts. It's a very limited edition - just twelve will be ordered!
